1. Why choose a Christian School?

Deuteronomy 6:7 –a parent’s call to thoroughly instruct their children about God’s ways

Proverbs 22:6 - a call to “train up the child in the way he should go”

Christian schoolteachers work together with parents and Jesus to help students grow in their knowledge and understanding of their Lord. Christian Schools put a Christian perspective on every aspect of the educational programs, both curricular and non-curricular.  The goal of Christian education is to help lead children to the wisdom of God.  Learning is much deeper than facts and theories.  It teaches children to see the wonder of God’s creation, and helps student’s gain and understanding of their role as image bearers and faithful stewards in God’s world.

3. What type of devotions can we expect?

Each day at RCS begins with a 10-minute time of devotions within individual classrooms.  Teachers together with classmates discover what means to be an image bearer of Christ.  It is a time of relating God’s will to our individual lives, songs and prayer.

Chapel is held once a week.  Grade ECS-6 gather for a time of teacher-led meditation, songs and prayer.  Grades 7-9 also meet once a week in a similar way.

4. Is the Alberta Curriculum taught at RCS?

Students are taught using the Alberta Curriculum standards.  Many of our texts and workbooks are the same ones used in the public school system, but a Christian perspective is included in all areas of learning. For example: when teaching a unit on machines, students not only come to understand God’s design in machines, but study the need for wise and responsible use of machines.  Bible class is taught as a separate class (4 periods a week in each grade level).

Teacher aides are assigned to work with students who have learning difficulties.  The frequency and amount of aide time provided is assessed on individual student need basis.  A resource teacher is also available to pull out students who require a little extra help (as needed) and to assist the staff with special program ideas and materials.

7. What becomes of students who graduate at the end of grade 9?

Most of our grade 9 graduates continue their education at Will Sinclair Public High School.  Based on the comments of many of our parents as well as educators from the public High School, the majority of our students do very well academically, athletically and in Fine Arts as they continue their education in a new setting.  Many return to RCS to express appreciation for the experiences and knowledge gained during their years at our

9. Do you hold a Science Fair?

RCS has moved from holding a Science Fair to what we call a School Fair.  It is our intention to show parents, grandparents and other community members a variety of skills taught within our school programs.  Each grade is given a special assignment, including Research Projects, Public Speaking, and Science Fair Projects.  We also display Art, Creative Writing, Bible Projects and anything else that may be of interest to the public.  The evening of the School Fair is wrapped up with a School Program that includes singing, skits/readings from students, etc.  This has proven to be a huge success for many years.
